The world, of course, knows that Rudolf Diesel (Rudolf Christian Karl Diesel) as the inventor diesel engine. Everyone also must be very familiar with the name of a diesel engine. It is a type of compression-triggering machine where to ignite and burn the fuel using compressed heat that injected into the combustion chamber. Types of diesel engines are generally used in types of vehicles that have a large engine capacity such as busway, truck, Fuso, and other cars.
The Inventor Diesel Engine
Before knowing the invention, it is better to know the background of the inventor diesel engine, Rudolf. He was a German scientist who spent his childhood in France until the Franco-Prussian war broke out in 1870.
Rudolf Diesel Background
Rudolf Diesel was born in Paris, France on March 18, 1858. Because of the war, Rudolf Diesel's family was forced to move to London, England. At the end of the war, his mother sent him who was 12 years old to live in Augsburg, Germany with his uncle and aunt. The goal was that Rudolf Diesel could speak German fluently. He then attended Royal County Trade School and his uncle became a mathematician there.
At the age of 14, Rudolf sent a letter to his parents wrote that he wanted to become an engineer. He was an intelligent student and completed his elementary education to become the best student in his class in 1873. He then continued his studies at the School of Augsburg. In 1875, he received a scholarship from Royal Bavarian Polytechnic in Munich.
Actually, his parents were in financial trouble and hoped that Rudolf would start working not study to earn an income. However, he opposed his parents will. While studying, Rudolf worked in a factory and got a lot of experience from where he worked. Then in 1880, Diesel graduated from his university and earned the honor as a student of the highest academic value.
Discovery Of Diesel Engine
After graduation in 1880, he went to Paris to establish a branch company there, an ice machine company. That year, he met Heinrich Buz, an Augsburger machinery director for the first time. They then made deals on making and testing the ice-making machine system. The same year he also received his first patent certificate upon his invention of producing claret in a bottle.

Rudolf Diesel then conducted a research about how to make the use of fuel on a machine to be more efficient. He knew that the steam engines that existed in his era only had an efficiency level of 10-15%. He then designed a machine with fuel that sprayed into the compression chamber. Then the fuel will burn from the heat generated by compression.
This engine is what we know today with Diesel Engines and Rudolf is known as the inventor diesel engine. His dream of creating a machine with high efficiency is achieved. The fuel source for diesel engines that is used now is known with the name diesel. It is the residual oil from the gasoline filtering results. Rudolf Diesel received a patent on Diesel Engine February 23, 1893, numbered 608845.
Diesel Engine Development
After Rudolf death on September 30, 1913, diesel engines become the substitute of steam engines. Diesel Engine is a heavy engine and has a more rigid and sturdy form of the gasoline engine. So, it is not used for aircraft engines. However, it is widely used by factories, ships, submarines, locomotives, and modern cars.
Diesel engines have the advantage of being more fuel efficient than engines with gasoline. Rudolf Diesel is particularly interested in using coal ash or vegetable oil as fuel. In fact, the engine that he designed can run on vegetable oil.
Conclusion
The world knows that Rudolf Diesel as the inventor diesel engine. He was a German scientist who spent his childhood in France. After graduating from university in 1880, he conducted a research about how to make the use of fuel on a machine to be more efficient and finally did it. This engine is what we know today with Diesel Engines. Rudolf Diesel received a patent on Diesel Engine February 23, 1893, numbered 608845.
