New Invention Biokuping The Bioplastic Products
In recent years, plastic waste has become a serious problem in the world government. Piles of plastics that cannot be decomposed up to hundreds of years increasingly fill the surface of the earth. Due to the problem, a group of students from Brawijaya University, Indonesia, think that the plastic material must be replaced with bioplastic products. So, it can be decomposed.
Plastic clearly has a bad impact on the environment. Our lifestyle seems very difficult to separate from the convenience of plastic bags for groceries or for taking away food. Moreover, the various paid plastic programs seem not work anymore. Therefore, these young people have succeeded in making environmentally friendly bioplastic products from processed banana peels.
Biokuping Invention The Bioplastic Products
Five students from the Agricultural Technology Faculty of Brawijaya University make a brilliant new invention. They succeeded in creating environmentally friendly bioplastic products that could be decomposed within a month. The quality or strength can also compete with the plastic that has been on the market.
The five students namely Rizki Septian Candra K., Himawan Auladana, Neno Retnowati, Abis Rinaldi, and the Lorenza Orlanda Putri Sellyan are still classified as young generation students. The discovery of it is named Bio Plastic Banana Skin (BIOKUPING). This plastic is made by smoothing banana peel with a mixture of glycerol and chitosan.
The starch or natural starch content in the banana skin is quite high around 27% -30%. That content makes banana peel suitable to be a plastic base material. In the making process, bacteria and biotin are also added. So, the decomposition process can take more quickly. As we all know, plastic waste takes years to centuries to break down and blend with the soil.
The hard to decompose factor also causes the amount of plastic waste to only increase from year to year. Therefore many bioplastic products invention like the creation of Brawijaya students are very important and needed for environmental sustainability. Interestingly, the manufacturing process is quite simple. You only need a mixture of banana peels with some additional ingredients that are quite easy to obtain
Biokuping From Banana Peels
Besides being able to decompose quickly, the use of banana peels is also a form of smart waste utilization. Banana skin can be further utilized for mutual benefit. Students of Brawajiya University have even collaborated with the manufacturer of snack bananas in Gondanglegi, Malang which produces 100-200 kg of banana skin every day.
Now, Biokuping has been proven to be able to break down as much as 75% in just 22 days. That is a great achievement. This new invention has also been patented and will be disseminated soon. Actually, not only the discovery of bioplastic products, we need a lot of innovation to replace various items that damage the environment.
Conclusion
Plastic waste has become a serious problem in the world. To decrease the problem, students from Brawijaya University, Indonesia, have succeeded in making environmentally bioplastic products from processed banana peels name BIOKUPING.
